This car is still undergoing restoration, but the customized PREMIUM restoration is almost done. This is a brief summary of what we have done so far:
Comprehensive repairs were made on the body of the car. It was sand blasted to remove any rust and old paint so the body was striped down to metal. Weak sections were reinforced and the areas damaged due to excessive rust were repaired. Misplaced holes and perforated areas were metal refilled and sheet metal was welded when needed. The floor pan was completely removed and replaced with a new floor that was stamped as the original on new metal sheet. The body was recovered from minor dents, straightened and realigned. After sand blasting, anti rust treatment and priming, the paint work was done using several coats of Glassurit paint imported from Germany. The present red color of the car will be changed upon its present owner’s request so the body will be totally repainted soon.
On the chassis, besides the metal conditioning (blasting, rust removal, anti-rust treatment and paint) all the mechanical aspects were covered. Front and rear axles were fully restored. Brake cylinders and master cylinders were replaced and the pedal assembly was completely restored. The pedals were polished and chromed.
The engine was totally dismantled and restored. Deep cleaning and inspection of every part (armature, crankshaft, camshaft, connecting rod, cylinder, ring, head, piston, etc.) was done to asses wear damage and were restored. All gadgets, seals, valves and bearings were replaced.
The carburetor was disassembled and restored and was carefully tuned during the engine tests to achieve maximum efficiency and power.
The exhaust system and muffler were also fully restored and the damaged sections were replaced.
The transmission and gear box were completely disassembled. Seals, gaskets and bearings were replaced. Every gear was inspected to asses its condition and to detect any sign of wear or damage in which case was restored to new condition. Shifter forks were also rectified when wear signs were evident. The differential was also fully restored.
Every aluminum parts were polished to improve their appearance giving the engine, gear box and transmission a wonderful look.
Some extra restoration is being done upon client's requests. Some improvements were included after the decision of changing the car's paint color scheme and upholstery. Among this improvements we can count the following:
-The Isetta was totally stripped and green phosphate treatment applied. Note that, at the pictures, the floor still keeps the red paint, because the old floor was being replaced with a new better one.
-New mudguards and other new improved sections were made from scratch and welded to the Isetta. The process of making these new body sections includes a lot of investigation and measuring works to achieve the unprecedented levels of detail shown at the pictures.
You can see in the pictures that all these new improved body parts are already installed. The new floor and mudguards were welded as well the new battery box. Also new customized bumper extensions were manufactured and are also ready to be installed.
The second paint job (which is already finished) was done to comply with the client’s specifications. The body had to be dismounted from the chassis to allow the re-paint work.
The upholstery work is in progress as well as the manufacturing of the Z-molds (lateral Z-trims).
As the other aspects of the restoration advance, all the interior and exterior accessories are being prepared to be installed. Folding roof metal pieces, hinges, staples, handles, bumpers, rear view mirror and other metal accessories are ready. Also the dashboard commands (levers, buttons, switches, etc.) were prepared. We are almost ready to start the final assembly of the car.
The restoration is a continuous process and more updates will be soon published so every step of the work can be followed. Stay tuned!
